Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) oversees investment/financial services in Cyprus. As a member of the European Union, Cyprus adheres to EU laws such as the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID). Utilizing the Single Passporting EU right, licensed investment firms can extend their services throughout the EU and establish branches and representative offices within the EU without additional capital requirements.
The Cyprus Investment Firms Law 87(I)/2017 (the “Law”) establishes the legal framework for providing investment services and activities and operating regulated markets.
Requirements:
- Incorporation in Cyprus
- Four (4) directors; two acting as executives and two as non-executives; at least three (3) must be Cyprus residents. Directors must demonstrate knowledge and experience and pass CySEC’s “fit and proper” test.
- Hiring of local resident staff members on a full-time basis to fulfill key functions of the Company. The minimum number of personnel required depends on the selected license.
